What is the University Model of Education?
It all begins with an idea.
Definition
The University-Model is a school program that mixes time in the classroom with time learning at home. Students spend 2-3 days in the school classroom and 2-3 days in their “satellite classroom,” which is their home. Both classrooms are supervised by a teacher.
Overview
The success of this model comes from combining a Christian faith-based approach with solid academic teaching. Parents work closely with teachers to help their children learn. Parents have an important role in overseeing their child’s schoolwork at home in the satellite classroom. They also help by providing extra support like tutoring, study help, and additional learning activities.
Kindergarten–6th Grade
The University-Model helps students become both spiritually and academically independent. Younger children usually need more time at home. For this reason, elementary students should spend 2 days a week at school and 3 days a week learning at home in the satellite classroom.
Middle School
When students reach middle school, they start spending more time at school. They attend school 3 days a week and spend 2 days at home in the satellite classroom. The goal is to help them get used to a college-like schedule, where students go to school for their scheduled classes rather than staying in the classroom all day.
High School
For high school students, the schedule is even more like a college environment. The University-Model gives students a strong education that prepares them for college and beyond.
